Following a tradition of interdisciplinary scientific
excellence & dialogue, the Harnack-Haus is our conference location
of choice. For the past eighty years this name has possessed an almost
magical aura, both within the confines of Berlin and beyond. The house
itself has become a symbol of German academic research, a historical
venue where science and international politics have enjoyed center
stage.
Therefore, the basic aim of the Glycan Forum Berlin is to not only
strengthen the scientific dialogue between international glyco-experts
but also to establish closer ties between todays experts and the new
generation of upcomming scientists.
The fascinating world of Glycomics offers countless challenges and
opportunities alike. At present, we witness the emergence of innovative
applications throughout the Life Science sector. Knowing that we can
only present the very „tip of the iceberg“, we want to encourage further
scientific collaboration and initiative as much as bold
entrepreneurship.
That is why we have modified the previous concept to further
integrate the relevant industry, representatives from venture capital,
consulting, the media and politics, more consequently. This will be an
ongoing process over the next couple of years - rather a steady
development than a short sighted revolution! Clearly a development,
which will have to be based on scientific excellence and the by the
continuous building of public awareness.
